This is the reel for my illustration asset creation and storyboarding for America’s Test Kitchen science explainer video. It was an amazing experience working with their team and figuring out the science behind their recipes. I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to elevate and refine existing illustrations, plus evolve the overall look of them through the seasons. I built full storyboards from the whiteboard phase to the refined boards, as well as giving art direction to animators. I was also in frequent and close communication with the client, always surpassing their expectations and creating the best result possible.

AMERICA’S TEST KITCHEN SCIENCE EXPLAINER VIDEOS

The storyboarding process usually began with a script from the client that includes graphics explanations. I would take that written information and translate that into a visual narrative that was clear and appealing, but also stayed true to the science. I worked directly with the science expert to make sure everything still all made sense on a biological and chemical level.

STORYBOARDING

For the illustration process, I began by creating individual, animatable assets that as vectors inside of Illustrator. I had to find the right balance between creating aesthetically pleasing visuals and also organizing them in such a way that made the animators’ process (and lives) easier. I learned so much from these illustrations and am happy to see the evolution of the illustrations throughout the years.

The process for Prologis’ Essentials films was fun from start to finish. I had the opportunity to participate in the look development on the 2D side, with simple sketches and ideas. I also got to put together the storyboard. Here is an example of the process for their Turnkey Solutions video.

At Neoscape, I created a short but sweet set of panels with the future plan to turn into a motion capture project. It never came to fruition but the process still served as a fun learning experience.

The idea was to have a dystopian-like environment filled with dust and rubble. Then, from the debris, a figure would emerge, a dancer with the ability to restore structure.
